Hello, I am an Australia permanent resident and plan to move Aus with my family next year. My foreign employer allows me to work remotely in Australia for them but not willing to manage any Australia tax (e.g. withholding tax, super) and take any legal/tax liability in Australia. If we would like to continue this working relationship, what are my options?

a) Continue to hire me and I report / pay my income to ATO

b) Find a employment service company in Australia to hire me (and mange all tax/employment stuffs) and make a secondment contract to my foreign employer

Thanks very much for your advice!

Hi @gagatax,

It's up to your employer to make sure they fulfill their tax and superannuation obligations when they employ someone who has the status of an Australian resident for tax purposes. Remember this is different to immigration residency status.

When you come to Australia your residency status may change over time from non-resident to resident, depending on your individual circumstances. If you become a resident you'll need to tell us about your world-wide income when you lodge a tax return.

Certainly, explore what your options are for using an employment service company.
