Hi,

Can i check how ATO identify tax payment? If we have limitation on keying the tax reference number at payment details field.

If we put "BSN number_mmyy (PRN:XXXXXXXX)" under our payment details, will ATO able to identify the payment? Currently our system auto mapped the invoice number to payment details, and our invoice number have to be unique.

Thank YOu.

Regards,

Natalie

Hi @natalietyt

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO)  identifies your tax payment by the Payment Reference Number (PRN).

When making your payment online, enter only the numbers of your PRN into the payment reference field. Do not enter any other characters or spaces (not even the letters PRN).

The numbers in the PRN tell our automatic system that it is both a payment to be made to your account and what type of account: Income Tax or Business Activity Statement or Fringe Benefits Tax, for example.

If you have already made a payment and you entered a different reference, and the amount has not been credited to your ATO account, then contact us.

The ATO prefers payment by BPAY or credit or debit card, but if you are having difficulty, consider other payment options.

You can check that we have received your payment (after allowing a few banking days).

Within your online myGov account:

- go to the TAB at the top that says Tax;

- then hover to Tax accounts and click it;

- then click on the blue writing to choose the account.

I hope this assists you

Tracey
