ABN quoted but not registered for GST

Hi,

It has come to my attention that I have

been charged GST by a sole trader who is not registered for GST, only after the tax invoices issued with their ABN were paid and the services received.

I contacted them to request an amended invoice. I also emailed them to check their records and they replied saying they were registered for GST but since their turnover was under the $75000 threshold he de-registered. He refused to amend the invoices issued.

What can I do about this please? What’s the best course of action?

ABN Lookup will show the Change in GST Registration date.

You would then compare this with the Invoice Date.

Note a GST registered entity issues a Tax Invoice with the words incl GST or showing the GST.

A non-GST registered entity issues a Invoice.

If you have been charged GST after a deregistration date, you would ask for the GST back.
