Can an Australian business charge Australians and overseas residents in USD?

The product is copywriting services and coaching carried out in Australia and online, along with digital products and courses conducted online.

What are the things that need to be taken into consideration for G.S.T purposes?

Hi @vmcdermott,

Thanks for your patience whilst we checked information with a specialist area regarding your query!

As an Australian business owner you can use any currency to run your operations, however you must report and pay GST in Australian dollars.

Please refer to Goods and Services Tax: Foreign Currency Conversion Determination 2018 and the Explanatory Statement for guidance on converting your sales back to Australian dollars.

There are specific rules that determine whether an exported supply is GST-free. Exports include supplies of things such as services, various rights, and other professional services.

Broadly, a supply of a service is GST-free if the recipient of the service is outside Australia. You can find more information about GST-free sales on our website.

If you require further guidance on how GST will apply to the services you provide you can send an e-mail request to GSTmail@ato.gov.au.

Thanks, JodieH.
