Worried you’re missing part of your refund? Remember, the low and middle income tax offset isn’t a refund on its own – it’s used to offset (or reduce) the amount of tax you pay. The offset amount you may be entitled to is automatically applied and could range between $255-$1080, depending on things like your taxable income and how much tax you’ve paid.

I'm not so sure about all the "paying for essential services, like hospitals, schools, roads and helping the community during natural disasters".

A large part of our taxes are used to pay the salaries of huge number of public servants, including approx 20,000 people who "work" at the ATO.

Before you b!tch about the public servants at the ATO you might want to consider whether sports rorts, pork barreling, coal lobbyists, the "Great Barrier Reef Foundation", and similar dubious funding priorities of this Government should be of more concern.  Workers pay tax and buy things.

I dunno the relevance of your political views.

Simply, by world standards, Australia has a large public sector, spread across mutiple layers of government.

This includes approx 20,000 "workers" at the ATO.

It must be expensive, since they're all well paid.
