Worried you’re missing part of your refund? Remember, the low and middle income tax offset isn’t a refund on its own – it’s used to offset (or reduce) the amount of tax you pay. The offset amount you may be entitled to is automatically applied and could range between $255-$1080, depending on things like your taxable income and how much tax you’ve paid.

Jobkeeper ineligibility fraud

I know of a few personal trainers getting the jobkeeper payments claiming it as sole traders and that their income has dropped by more than 30%. However, as they are getting cash in hand from their clients nothing hits their bank accounts. As a taxpayer I think this is unfair. I am sure there are a lot like this out there. How does the ATO approve eligibility for sole traders?

Hi @lanaharris111,

Unfortunately we can only go on what is reported to us. Sometimes there are inconsistencies that throw up red flags for us to investigate but, if you know of any people who are exploiting the system, please fill out a tip off form so we can investigate.
