Hi,
Can you please advise how can a non-resident director of a business log in to the business portal on ATO website now? In the case of the non-resident director being the only principal authority of the company, the director is not able to get standard identity strength on MyGovID and cannot link the business in RAM. There is no access to the portal at the moment after the retirement of AUSKey for non-resident directors. Please advise other ways of accessing the portal and online services of ATO. Thanks.

Hi @joyu,

We know there are circumstances where businesses have non-Australian residents listed as the eligible associate on the ABR who cannot reach a Standard Identity strength. We are working on a long term solution for this section of the community, however, we cannot advise a definitive date of when this will be complete.

We acknowledge the transition from AUSkey may be more difficult for some members of the community and we will continue to support businesses to transition from AUSkey to myGovID and RAM post end of March 2020 for those business that have been unable to make this transition.

Please  get in contact with us to discuss further.

Thanks, NateH

Hi Nate,

Thanks for your reply.

Do you have any short-term solutions for non-Australian resident directors to log into the business portal at the moment? Or do you mean we can only wait until further notice for now?

As it is concerned that we may need the access to the business portal to apply for some of the COVID-19 support measures for the business, and we are worried that we will be left out because of this.

Thank you.

Hi @joyu,

Unfortunately there isn't any way to access the business portal without myGovID. We'd recommend calling if you were worried about not being able to claim some of the COVID-19 measures.

If you’re not able to transition to myGovID straight away we have some others ways that you can meet your tax obligations. These include:

  • phone lodgment (only applicable for businesses with a turnover less than $20million)
  • paper lodgment (only applicable for businesses with a turnover less than $20 million)
  • a registered Australian tax agent
  • cloud-based Standard Business Reporting (SBR) enabled software.

Thanks, NateH

Hi

I currently live offshore and have lost access to MyGov as I don't have an Australian phone number anymore, nor do I want to get one just for MyGov. We are not receiving any notifications re PAYG instalments on investment property we still have as can't access portal and when I could you can't put in offshore address.

What is the solution for this?

Hi @Raili

We've answered a similar question on a previous thread. Have a read through that and see if it answers your question.

Hope this helps.
