Worried you’re missing part of your refund? Remember, the low and middle income tax offset isn’t a refund on its own – it’s used to offset (or reduce) the amount of tax you pay. The offset amount you may be entitled to is automatically applied and could range between $255-$1080, depending on things like your taxable income and how much tax you’ve paid.

Hi,

I am a sole trader and had been advised that I am ineligible as I didn't have income for the last financial year as I commenced business only in Jan 2020 and had no comparison period under the general turnover test.

I have appealed the outcome by providing evidence of income for this year and submitting an objection from.

How long does the review process take? and what do I do if I get an outcome after the 14th of July? As it will be, past the date for declaring for June fortnights. Please advise.

Hi @vasi77

Thanks for getting in touch with us - we understand it's a stressful time at the moment.

There is some information on our website about how we deal with objections, which gives information on timeframes etc.

If your objection is substantiated, you will be able to be backpaid, and that area will let you know what you need to do.

In the meantime, you will need to wait for them to get back to you.

Best of luck

thanks

Likewise I am also going through an objections. In doing a review (after paying FN 1 & 2) it seems that they did not consider the possibility of the alternative test being applied i.e."commenced business after the relevant comparison period (the business did not exist in that period) but not on or after 1 March 2020" as per the website, only that we did not exist last year.

Have you had an outcome yet ?

Hi @vasi77,
Did you receive a response from them and how did you formulate your letter?
Thankyou heaps

Hi @kimberleybroad

If you use the objection form it makes it easier for you to tell us what you're objecting to.

Hope this helps.
