Hi there,

My partner was granted a partner visa 820 in March, and is being assessed for the sub class 801 visa. This visa permit him to work, study and Medicare.

Up until last week he has been working full time, but his employer let him go last Wednesday, ceasing his employment.

Is he eligible for JobSeeker payments while he is out of work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

I'm sorry to hear that. According to Services Australia's website, to get Jobseeker you need to be between 22 and Age Pension age, your income is under the test limits and you're an Australian resident. You’re an Australian resident if you live in Australia and are either:

  • an Australian citizen
  • a permanent residence visa holder
  • a protected Special Category visa (SCV) holder.
