The internet lets us shop, bank, research, work and ask questions on ATO Community! But there are many dangers lurking online, including cyber criminals who steal money, information and identities.

For Stay Smart Online Week, we want to share a few tips to help our Community members reduce their risk:

  1. Keep your social media private and secure by checking your privacy settings and only accepting friend requests from people you know.
  2. Be careful of emails, SMS and social media messages claiming to be from a bank, business or government agency. Don’t reply to suspicious messages and never click a login button within a message.
  3. Make your passwords at least 13 characters long, use different passwords for each account and turn on two-factor authentication.
