I am interested in buying specific international shares with my super.  I have tried investigating super funds that offer a "self invest" option in their funds.  However these only seem to allow the purchase of ASX 300 companies or exposure to funds covering a range of international companies.

If I want to purchase shares in international companies, e.g. buy a specific amount of shares in microsoft or Tesla, is the only way to do this with a SMSF?

Only if you cannot find a public offer fund that will allow this.

I don't know any that do, but you may find one if you keep searching.

It would also be prudent to ask the funds that offer direct AUS shares why they don't offer direct INTERNAT shares.
