Did you know COVID-19 Disaster Payments are now tax-free?

This means it’s a non-taxable payment which is not included in your tax return.

These payments provide support to those who are unable to earn income because state or territory health orders prevent them working in their usual employment. If you’ve recently applied for the payment with Services Australia, you won’t need to include the amount in your tax return next year.

If you received this payment from Services Australia due to the Greater Melbourne lockdowns last financial year, you don’t need to include the payment in your tax return. If you’ve already lodged your tax return and included the payment, you’ll need to amend your tax return to make sure you don’t pay too much tax.

Find out how to make an amendment and more information about what government payments need to go in your tax return on our website.
