Registering for GST

I am working with a non-profit organisation with their conference to be held in Australia in 2021. This non-profit organisation does not have any office or presence in Australia and the conference will be a one off event.

The details of the conference will include;

  • 650 or more delegates, both Australian and International attendees
  • Total registration fee income from the conference estimates to be $345,000

Based on the above details can you please confirm the following;

  1. Is the non-profit organisation is required to register for GST?
  2. If required to register for GST, does GST need to be charged on all registration fees, including to the international delegates who will be travelling to Australia to attend the conference?

Any assistance you could provide will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Mike

You would need to determine if the sale of registrations for the conferences is considered a supply connected with Australia. If it is consider connected with Australia than yes they would need to register as their turning for a non profit is over 150,000.
