Re: 50% discount on shares held over 12 months

Hi,

I'm new to investing, and I would like to ask a question about getting the 50% discount on my tax with any shares held over 12 months.

Does the countdown to 12 months start from the first time I buy shares from a company, or does the 12 month countdown start on my most recent purchase from that same company?

Any help with this would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Each parcel of shares has its own 12 month period.  For example if you sold 1,500 shares today after buying 1,000 of those shares two years ago and the other 500 shares six months ago, the discount would apply only to the gain from the first 1,000 shares purchased.
