Combined work and holiday trip that's not reimbursed by employer - are portion of expenses claimable

I embarked on a combined holiday and work trip.

  • I am the manager for a company that develops a product in the hospitality industry.
  • I needed to do some research on the effectiveness of the product in one of our key markets.
  • I took a combined holiday and product research trip overseas.  This was the plan from the start.
  • Each day was a mix of holiday and work.
  • As a percentage, I spent 66% of the time on holiday, 34% of the time researching the effectiveness of the product.
  • My family joined me for the holiday.  It was 100% holiday for them.
  • I have logs of time spent researching.
  • I only used annual leave for the holiday portion, the portion spent researching was paid employment.
  • All expenses were paid for by me.
  • I have not and will not be reimbursed for the expenses I incurred conducting the product research.

Am I able to claim 34% of the expenses I incurred conducting research? e.g. air fare, transport, accommodation?  I am only referring to my portion, not my families.
