Hi there,
I am an Irish citizen living in Ireland I was previously on a WHV this year in Australia (whv is still active). I have departed Australia and I am wondering the income tax implications of working remotely in Ireland for an Australian based company.
Does my Australian employer withhold PAYG tax and then I will pay my income tax in Ireland - as I will not be returning to Australia and have no assets there? Or does my Australian company tax me as a foreign resident and then I am not liable for tax in Ireland (as I know there is a double taxation treaty)
Thanks!
Hi @Gmurph
You should contact your employer to find out what they intend to do.
We have answered this scenario previously from an employers perspective about hiring employees from overseas.
You may also find this information about working remotely for an Australian company helpful as well.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, Ari
