Hi there,

I have recently relocated to Queensland with my job and I will be required to regularly fly back to Melbourne to spend time at our head office. As such, I will need to purchase luggage for this work-related travel. Could you please confirm whether this is tax-deductible?

Thank you,

Anna

No, it is not a genuine work related deduction

Hi @Anna24,

As @SM2304 said, it would need to relate directly to your earning of income. From our information page on work-related expenses:

  • you must have spent the money yourself and weren't reimbursed
  • it must directly relate to earning your income
  • you must have a record to prove it.
