A bit of complicated situation, but I am protected persons living in my grandfathers home (he is aged care), due to being there for more than 5 years and a carer. The house is owned completely by him, but am I able to have a friend live with me and we split the bills (water, electricity, gas, internet, food)? There is no rent.  I am not paying rent either, just the bills and I will be paying more of the bills. We are both on Centrelink payments due to health issues, so it would really help to have someone to split the bills with.

Also if we can have this arrangement I am assuming they can't claim rental assistance?

Will Centrelink see this as me asking for rent? How is this situation classified?

Hi @PSdetails,

The ATO only sees it as sharing bills and living expenses. Not income earning.

You will need to check withe centrelink to see how they view the situation.

Thanks
