Receiving Income Protection Insurance

Hi I am receiving income protection insurance and have had $1248 tax deducted from my income of $24000.  I have just gone to lodge my return and assumed I would get my tax back but apparently not and ATO is only refunding around $750.  My question is can I claim deductions such as :

I had to pay my nurses registration so that I can commence work when physically able - can I claim this?

Specialist fees I have paid and physio fees for rehab.

Anything else I can claim like all the petrol driving to all the medical appointments.

Thanks

Clare1.

Hi @Clare1,

Thank you for your post. To claim work related deductions they must be expenses incurred in relation to your work. The registration may be a deductible, you can check your eligibility via the website. The tax offset for Net Medical expenses is no longer available so you cannot claim these as a deduction.

Hope this helps

Just to clarify, was your entire income from income protection? and all of your tax withheld from that amount?
