Sons living overseas

Hi there,

My situation:

My 2 sons (7 and 9 years old) and I got the Permanent Residency last year.

Although I live here Sydney, they are currently living overseas.

I personally transfer money to them to help with the costs.

Is there anything I can claim on my tax return?

Thanks,

No, because they have nothing to do with you earning assessable income.

Depending on their residency status you could claim them as dependents for Medicare Levy Surcharge purpose.

This will not give you anything 'claimable', but may allow for up to $180,000 taxable income before payment of Medicare Levy surcharge if you don't have adequate hospital cover.
