Are study expenses accounted for in the tax year that they are due, or the tax year that they are paid?

Hi @AlexaDavin,

Thanks for getting in touch!

To be eligible to claim a tax deduction you must have incurred the expense yourself and weren't reimbursed, it must directly relate to earing your income and you must have a record to prove it.

You can claim a deduction in the financial year in which you have incurred (or paid) the expense.

If you have further questions, you can phone us on 13 28 61 between 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday to speak with an operator.

Thanks, JodieH.
