Hi,

I have recently moved from a working holiday visa to a partner visa (482). My employer is aware of my visa change however, I was wondering if I needed  to notify ATO or my employer about my change in residency for tax purposes?

Thanks

Jay

Hi @jayshree_butler

Welcome to the Community and great question.

You will need ask your employer or payroll to check how you answered question 7 and question 8 on your Tax file number declaration.

If you answered 'No' at either of these questions, you'll need to complete a withholding declaration and provide this to your employer, therefore going forward you will be taxed at the correct rate.

When lodging your tax return you can advise us if you 'Are you a Resident for tax purposes?'.

Hope this helps.

Thanks MayW
