Does conducting IT work for an overseas company (whereby the overseas compnay is invoiced) consitute a gst free export?

And if so, does that allow you to claim gst on purchases made in Australia while conducting the business?

Hi @Nicholas

Thanks for getting in touch!

Generally speaking, exported goods are GST-free if exported from Australia within 60 days of:

  • the supplier receives any payment for the goods
  • the supplier issues an invoice for the goods.

Supplies of things other than goods for consumption provided outside Australia, such as services, various rights, and other professional services are also considered GST-free.

You can still claim credits for the GST included in the price of purchases you incur in your activity statement.

You can find more information about GST exports on our website, alternatively you can phone us on 13 28 66 between 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday to speak with an operator.

Thanks, JodieH.
