Hello. I'm wondering if a sole trader can get copies of taxable payment reports that other businesses in building construction have reported payments to him on. I have a friend who has past years income tax returns overdue when he held an ABN but has no income information.  He has written to ATO but was only provided employment and Centrelink information. He doesn't want to risk lodging an income tax return with incomplete information if the ATO has records of ABN income.

Hi @TraceyGC,

No, your friend may need to use bank statements to help work out the income that was received while working off the ABN.  If there were amounts reported to the ATO through the Taxable payment these amounts will prefill in myTax.  If your friend has a myGov account, they will be able to lodge online from the 2016 financial year.

You can learn more on how to create a myGov account and how to lodge online with myTax on our website.

Thanks, Simone
