I know as part of the the ATO continuing use of data matching that they receive share trades from ASIC. My question is if and when does this information get pre-filled in myTax?

Hi @JakeE,

Thanks for your question!

Data regarding share transactions is reported to the ATO by stock exchanges and share registries. Some of this data will be used to pre-fill your tax return, but not all of it will. There is a list of what common data is currently available for pre-fill here.

Pre-fill data is generally available by mid-August, and includes the following investment categories:

  • interest from banks, credit unions, building societies
  • dividend payments from share registries
  • managed fund distributions
  • capital gains from the disposal of shares and property

All other investment data will need to be entered manually. If any expected pre-fill data does not populate in your return, you can either wait until it has been reported or enter it manually.

Hope this helps,

Rachael B.
