Lodged 2018-2019 tax return August 2019 with an amendment for return 2017-2018. Account says both progressing with effective date 6/9 and showing credit. It also says Under Review. Agent received email says return delayed with Code 1 ‘Potential overstated and/or claim verifying information’. Return is same as always except forgot an offset last year. Online states pending transactions also - totally confused. What does it all mean

Hi WM10721,

Firstly, ask your agent (and if they don't know get them to ring the ATO). Secondly, ask the ATO...

It means pretty much what it says - the ATO believe there is a problem with your stated income / deductions and they are investigating it before giving you your refund. Just because it's the same as last year, doesn't mean its correct. The ATO is getting heaps of extra data each year and something they have must be contrary to what you have put down. Possibly your employer hasn't lodged their group certificates and they want to check that what you have put down is accurate (which is happening a lot this year).
