Hi <LI-USER uid="26926" login="Cobramwindows1"></LI-USER>

Thanks for your question.

If you are referring to OnePath Masterfund, they merged with IOOF's Retirement Portfolio Service last year. In turn you will need to update the ABN. You may also need to update the USI but you should check that with your employee.

You can find the ABN on the Super Fund Lookup by searching for Retirement Portfolio Service. You will see that there are a number of USIs listed hence why you should ask your employee which one you should use.

For more information about the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House, check out our website.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

We have some information on our website about this particular scenario. You can find out what you need to do by checking out the SBSCH system status page.

Hi <LI-USER uid="26168" login="Justine_B"></LI-USER>

Thanks for your question.

If you have made a payment to the SBSCH that was more than the payment instruction amount, the whole payment will be rejected and refunded to you within 24-48 hours.

If the payment that you made to the SBSCH was equal to the payment instruction amount and you have since realised that the payment instruction amount was too high, you will need to get in touch with your former employee's super fund.

We won't be able to retrieve the overpaid super on your behalf.

For more information about the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House, refer to our website.

Thanks for your question.

The Small Business Super Clearing House (SBSCH) doesn't work like that. As part of adding your employee's details, you will need to add their superannuation fund details before you can make a payment.

For more information about the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House, have a look at our website.

If they haven't provided you with their super fund details, you will need to pay their super to your employer-nominated fund (default fund). These are the details that you will need to provide when you add the employee before making your SBSCH payment.

You can find out more about setting up super and your default fund on our website.

Hi <LI-USER uid="25777" login="grule123"></LI-USER>,

Thanks for your patience while we checked this for you.

The Australian Office of Financial Management (AOFM) holds the responsibility for Government Accounts. As noted in the AOFM annual report 2018-19.

The AOFM manages the daily cash balances of the Australian Government in the OPA. This is undertaken in a manner that ensures the government is able to meet its financial obligations as and when they fall due. Other objectives are to minimise the cost of funding and the carrying cost of holding cash balances (which centres on holding only balances assessed as prudent to cover forecast needs and contingencies, while investing excess balances at low or minimal risk.

Cash balances not required immediately were invested in term deposits at the RBA, with the magnitudes and tenors of the term deposits determined by the AOFM. Maturity dates of term deposits were selected to most efficiently finance net outflows. Interest rates for term deposits at the RBA reflect the rates earned by the RBA in its open market operations.

You can have a look at the Australian Office of Financial Management (AOFM) Annual Report 2018-19 for more information.

If you had any more questions about this you would need to be get in contact with the AOFM.

Thanks, NateH

Hi <LI-USER uid="25751" login="JustinC"></LI-USER>,

Just to clarify, have you paid too much when your payment instruction that you filled out was lower? E.g. $500 on the payment instruction but you paid $1000. If this is the case, the incorrect payment will refund automatically after seven business days (plus 24-48 hours for you bank to process).

Or did you have the extra $1873 in your payment instruction as well? If that is case then you will need to contact the super fund directly to see what they can do.

Hope this helps. Thanks, NateH

Hi

In the few days (4 days last payment) between when a super payment is made and deposited to the super fund bank account who is holding the funds and earning interest? I imagine this would add up to a large amount of lost interest each year across all contributors.

Thanks

Hi <LI-USER uid="25706"></LI-USER>,

Thanks for getting in touch!

The tricky thing about SBSCH is that you must pay the exact amount that shows on the payment instruction. If you don't, the payment will usually be rejected and refunded. If you have not received a refund of the amount yet, then it may be due to an incorrect payment reference number being used.

I'd suggest firstly checking the PRN (also known as EFT code) used when the payment was made, as well as your account balances in the Business Portal, to see if you can find where the payment went. If you can locate it, call us and let us know what has happened so that we can try to transfer the payment.

If you can't locate it, it's still a good idea to call us so that we can try to locate it for you and transfer the payment across. The transferred payment will have the same effective date as the original payment.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can help me asap. When I was about to lodge the next payment instructions for Oct-Dec quarter, I found that the previous payment instructions were not processed (it says 'waiting for payment'). I checked our bank account and saw that we already paid the amount, although the payment was slightly different from the total in the payment instructions.

We never received a refund from the ATO. So I was wondering where that payment went.

Please advise how I can resolve this asap as I need to lodge and pay the next set of superannuation for our employees.

Thanks in advance.

You would need to choose which one you want to make the payment through, if you are paying through the clearing house check with your fund why you need to register payment details.

Yes, you should be able to see your year to date super payments in your myGov account.

While the super guarantee (SG) contribution may be for you, it is a payment made by your employer. In turn, we will need to access your employer's file to find out what has happened.

It is interesting that a subsequent SG contribution has been distributed to your super fund and allocated to your account. Assuming that your employer didn't change your details for the more recent payment, there is a good chance that the earlier payment was also distributed to your fund but simply hasn't been allocated for some reason.

Your employer can find the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) number on the phone us page of our website.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

ChrisR

On the 3/9/19 my employer made payment of SG Contributions to SBSCH. All employee entitlements were processed by SBSCH to the respective super funds on 9/9/19 with the exception of mine. My contribution has not been forwarded to my super fund nor has it been returned to my employer. How do I get this problem resolved. Incidentally a subsequent remittance has been correctly distributed to my account.

Thanks for your post.

When payments are made via the SBSCH they are considered to be received when the super fund receives the payment.

Hi <LI-USER uid="24266" login="Angies"></LI-USER>,

<LI-USER uid="15993" login="Biggiesmalls"></LI-USER> is right — if you're a small business owner, you may be eligible to use the free Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) to make your super contributions. This will allow you to:

pay super

set a regular contribution amount for an employee

make all your super contributions in one transaction

access your transaction history

To access the SBSCH, you can use your Australian business number (ABN) to either log in to your Business Portal or log in to ATO online services via myGov.

Re: SUPER

Hi <LI-USER uid="24218" login="Belle10"></LI-USER>

Welcome to our Community.

If you have used our Small Business Super Clearing House (SBSCH) to make this super payment, it depends on the circumstances as to what needs to happen next.

For more information about the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House, refer to our website.

For us to be able to distribute the super to your employee's super fund/s, you are required to lodge a payment instruction prior to making the payment or within seven days of making the payment.

If the payment that you made was more than the amount in the payment instruction, the whole payment would have been rejected and refunded to the listed employer bank account within 24 to 48 hours. You don't need to request this refund as it happens automatically.

If the payment that you made matched the amount in the payment instruction, we would have distributed the super to your employee's super funds. If you have since realised that the figures in the payment instruction were incorrect, you will need to contact the super fund/s to organise a refund.

Alternatively, you could reduce the next super payment that you are due to make in line with the overpaid amount for January. For super guarantee (SG) purposes, you can do this if it's for the same employee and the start of the quarter is within 12 months after the payment date.

You can find out more about that option by referring to the carry forward your late payment information on our website. While this information is found on the late payments page of our website, it can also be applied to scenarios where the super was paid on time.

For example, if you have realised that you paid $300 too much for a particular employee, you could reduce your next required super payment by $300 for that same employee. Of course this assumes that you have further super obligations for that employee.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

ChrisR

As an end of year process one of my employees elected to pay extra super up to the super cap. I paid this into the Super Clearing house on 25 June 19 however it is showing on teh employees super statement is not received until 3 July 2019 ie 9 days later. What steps do i take to assist the employee in getting this recognised in the tax year that it was paid to the clearing house?

Hi <LI-USER uid="23958" login="erinstrahan"></LI-USER>

Welcome to our Community.

Assuming that you are using our Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH), your SG obligations are met as soon as your payment and instructions are accepted by the SBSCH. This assumes that the super fund is also able to accept the payment.

For more information, refer to the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House page on our website.

If the payment is returned to us, we'll contact you to ask that the information be updated within seven business days. If you update the details, we'll re-send the super payment to the fund. If you don't update the details, we'll send the payment back to you.

It sounds like that is what has happened with the most recent payment. Regarding the previous payments, we recommend that you get in touch with us so that we can have a look into it for you. The SBSCH number can be found on the phone us page.

If some of the payments relate to super guarantee (SG) that was payable for the June 2019 quarter or prior and the fund was unable to accept the payments, you are late. In turn, you may need to pay the super guarantee charge (SGC) and lodge an SGC statement.

For more information, refer to the missed and late payments page on our website.

It isn't a given that you have to submit an SGC statement and pay the associated penalties (e.g. nominal interest). If exceptional circumstances apply, you can still pay the SG via the SBSCH, even if it is late.

If you believe that your situation is exceptional because you have done all you could reasonably be expected to do to comply with your super obligations by the due date, we recommend that you self-assess your liability against PS LA 2007/1 (GA). You can access this document from our legal database.

There are a number of examples in PS LA 2007/1 (GA) of SG payments being made on time but returned due to reasons outside of the employer's control. If you believe that one of those examples applies, make a record of your self-assessment. You don't need to formally advise us unless we ask you to.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

ChrisR

Hey Everyone,

I have a problem,

I got my first notification at the end of last pay period that one employees Superannuation details needed updating. I made the superannuation payment anyway for all employees, including this one.

I got an email letting me know, again to update the details. The employee didn't get the details to me in time and the payment got returned to my bank account - not a problem.

When the employee did give me his updated details though, I logged in to update them and found out that the last 10 pay periods or so - his payment has not been processed! I have had no notifications of this, until now. I have also NEVER seen these partial payments returned to our bank account and am at a loss as to what I should do - because I assume I'm going to have to resubmit through ATO and pay interest on these amounts, even though it appears to not be my fault.

What are your thoughts as to what I should do? and how do I go about finding where this money has gone to!? The employee has confirmed with his super fund and they have not recieved it.

Many thanks in advance,

Erin

Hi <LI-USER uid="23644" login="bstevenson"></LI-USER>

Welcome to our Community.

If your original small business super clearing house (SMSCH) payment was unsuccessful, you will need to make another payment. You can make a payment via BPAY, credit or debit card (using the Government EasyPay service) or direct credit.

For the payment to be successful, you will need to ensure that you have created a payment instruction. If the payment that you make is equal to the payment instruction amount, we will distribute the super in accordance with the details in the payment instruction.

If there is no payment instruction, we will hold the payment for seven business days to allow time for the payment instruction to be lodged. If a payment instruction is not lodged within seven business days, the payment will be automatically refunded to your nominated bank account recorded on the SBSCH.

If you make an overpayment, the whole amount is rejected and refunded within 24-48 hours.

If you make an underpayment, as long as we receive the rest of the required amount within seven business days of the submission of the payment instruction, we will distribute the super in accordance with the details in the payment instruction.
Under Australian tax rules, you cannot currently transfer your Australian superannuation to your UK, or to any other overseas fund with the relatively recent exception of New Zealand. You also need to reach preservation age and satisfy a condition of release, which generally means that you are aged 57-65 and retired, to be able to access your super

In turn, unless this salary sacrificed payment is somehow related to super, there is no requirement to report it via the SBSCH.

For more information about the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House, refer to our website.

When you create a payment instruction in the SBSCH, you are required to provide the following superannuation payment amounts for each employee:

Super guarantee

Additional employer

Salary sacrifice

Employee voluntary, plus the

Total contribution amount

The third bullet point is specifically referring to a salary sacrificed super payment. Any other salary sacrifice arrangements (e.g. rent, vehicle, etc.) aren't reportable here. For more information, refer to the salary sacrificing super – information for employers page on our website.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

ChrisR

Each software provider has their own processing times and they will usually advise you of their submission deadlines in order to ensure that the payments are processed on time.

If you were previously using the SBSCH, you are welcome to return to using that at any time.
If the payment was returned to you more than seven days ago, you'll need to delete the payment instruction and lodge a new payment instruction which will include the new employee details.

Simply select Update next to the relevant payment instruction

As mentioned in the previous post, a payment instruction that has not been paid can also be cancelled.

Hi JodieH,

Can you please confirm if we can amend details once a payment instruction is lodged?

The difference might be an error between 'Super guarantee' and 'Employer additional' but no change to the overall payment.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi <LI-USER uid="19876" login="Speakeasy_83"></LI-USER>

Welcome to our Community.

<LI-USER uid="22020" login="JohnJohnJohn"></LI-USER> is correct. If you submit a SBSCH payment instruction then only make a partial payment, we will automatically refund it if we don't receive the rest of the required payment within seven business days of the payment instruction submission.

If you split it into four payments you would need to make sure all four payments were made within seven business days of the payment instruction submission. Trying to make four payments for one payment instruction over four weeks won't work.

If you make a payment without lodging a payment instruction, the SBSCH will hold the payment for seven business days to allow time for the payment instruction to be lodged. After that, the payment will be automatically refunded.

If the reason for wanting to make smaller payments more often is for cash flow reasons, perhaps you could set up a separate business bank account specifically for taking care of your super obligations.

Sorry we couldn't be more helpful.

Thanks,

ChrisR

The impression I get is that the ATO won't let you do this. Payments need to match the amounts entered on the SBSCH, and any part payment or pre payment will be returned

Great to get some clarity on it from the ATO

Alternatively, the super guarantee (SG) legislation allows you to use the second super payment as a credit towards a future quarter's SG obligation.

You can do this if the contribution was made not more than 12 months before the beginning of the quarter that you want to apply the credit to.

I have just changed from using the ATO clearing house because we have new Xero software that pays super directly to Superchoice.

I went through the regular ATO clearing house process and made the payment via BPay before I realised my error. I cancelled the Payment Instruction in the Payment Instructions section thinking that would cause the BPay payment to bounce back but it hasn't.

How do I go about getting the money back?

Thanks

If there is a technical issue then it may still be under investigation.

If your former employer was late in paying the superannuation obligations due to a technical issue or any other reason, then they may be facing consequences including having to pay the super guarantee charge.

If you have already lodged an unpaid super query, then you can find out more about the steps that we take during our investigation process.

Hope this helps,

Rachael B.

You should first speak to your employer to find out what the difficulties are with the payments, to see if there is any way that it can be resolved with them.

Superannuation information is only required to be reported through the SBSCH on a quarterly basis, so this means that we may not receive the information for quite some time. The ATO does look into unpaid super queries, but you need to lodge one with us before we can investigate.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Rachael B.

I have a similar problem. I was being paid super up until December 2018 and suddenly it stopped. I no longer work there so I contacted my employer. Apparently, the ATO was sending the money back to the employer saying they could not match it.

THEN, my employer needed a special Key Number to access the small business super a/c. Eventually, my employer received it. THEN, the ATO told my employer the Unique Identification Number had changed - it was 2 digits out. FINALLY, on 8 August my super was paid into the small business clearing house and should have been in my super account today - which it isn't.

It is not "lost" super.

Ask your employer to ring the small business clearing house on Tel,1**TFN removed** to discuss your situation.

Also you need to lodge a "Report unpaid super contributions from my employer" form (I did this in early August but haven't heard anything yet) - here's the link https://www.ato.gov.au/calculators-and-tools/report-unpaid-super-contributions-from-my-employer/

If you go back to Superannuation (community) Answered queries - under super clearing house. Type "super clearing house" in the search box (up the top) and all the queries concerning employees not receiving their super will come up - it appears to be quite a frequent problem since last November. Good luck

Hello everyone, my boss pays my super through an ato clearing house and I have not received any super in over 12 months which now means my insurances got cancelled, my payslip says I was supposed to receive a certain amount but received nothing, he says it’s paid, I’ve tried looking for lost super, can’t find any contributions, what do I do?

Thanks for your patience - we've just heard back from our specialist area who have advised:

There was a change to the ABN for OnePath Masterfund back in April. Members of this super fund should have received information in relation to the change and passed it on their employer to update their SBSCH records.

Old details
Fund Name: OnePath Masterfund
ABN: 53 789 980 697

New details
Fund Name: Retirement Portfolio Service
ABN: 61 808 198 263

Hope this helps, JodieH.

Thank you for your patience.

The information that we have received from the specialist area is that they are currently working on improvements to provide employers with more information regarding error messages.

We would also note that the employee would have received notification from their fund regarding the changes. A suggestion might be that they update you with any changes in the future; to save your valuable time and to save you experiencing any further issues.

Hope this helps

Please advise if there really is a new ABN or USI for OnePath Masterfund. I have googled Superfund Lookup and double-checked the ABN & USI for said fund. They have matched exactly what is indicated on the employee’s super fund details. Yet when I tried over and over again to lodge a payment instruction, the same “cannot verify USI details” keep popping up. I noticed that comments on this ato community have mentioned changes to abn of both StatePlus and OnePath. Also the SBSCH website has posted old and new ABN for StatePlus, but is absolutely silent one OnePath MasterFund’s alleged new ABN. PLEASE HELP. This is really frustrating me.

Hi <LI-USER uid="18907" login="ttiimm"></LI-USER>

Welcome to our Community.

The rule that you are talking about isn't unique to the Small Business Clearing House (SBSCH). It is a rule that has been in place for a number of years and applies to many contributions, regardless of the method or channel used to make the payment.

Contributions are considered paid when the super fund receives them. If you want to read about it from an employer's perspective, you can check out the when to pay super and claiming a tax deduction pages of our website for more information.

If your employee wants to do some more reading, they can refer to the concessional contributions page. The reality is that it is up to the employee (not the employer) to keep track of contributions made on their behalf to their super account.

If you would like to have a more detailed read, have a look at Taxation Ruling TR 2010/1 which can be accessed from our legal database.

This Ruling considers a number of matters including the ordinary meaning of contribution, how a contribution can be made and when a contribution is made.

There is another similar thread that you can check out too:

Re: Salary Sacrifice Superannuation from June pay not paid into fund until July - Which financial...

Sorry we can't be of more assistance.

Thanks,

ChrisR

If you're referring to the number of employees for single touch payroll, its the number of employees you have regardless of their employment status.

Hi

Is it possible for the non-resident employer to make SG contributions from an overseas bank account (the employer doesn't have an Australian bank account ) to a superannuation clearing house which then can pass the contributions into the employee's chosen fund. Employee's current super fund does not accept contributions coming from an overseas bank account.

Thanks

Tanya
