Hi everyone,

I currently have a novated lease on a car that I had bought second hand and re-leased it to the leasing company for purposes of salary sacrifice.

When I bought the car, the car had paint protection applied by the previous owner and I have the invoices to prove it. As the paint protection is needed to be reapplied every 4-5 years and its now due for another application, and by my thinking,   this current reapplication would count as of the running costs or maintenance of the car/paint

I understand if I had bought the car without paint protection and would like to put it on now, it would be ineligible to claim that deduction.

Could I get some clarification?

Many thanks

@mech81 this would be a question for your lease company. The ATO would not have legislation on this.

maybe check the contract or agreement.
