Hello.
Trying to find out if I can claim any medical expenses at tax time.
I had an injured/worn out shoulder that needed surgery, the waiting time on Government Hospital was 18months, I don't have medical insurance .
The pain was unbearable and affecting my Quality of life and I definitely could not bear the pain for a year and a half so I went and took a loan to pay for the surgery, all up it was over 6000 dollars, my question is can I claim any of this against my tax?
Troy
No, I'm afraid you can no longer claim any medical expenses in your tax.
The end of the 2018-2019 income year, taxpayers can only claim the net medical expenses tax offset for medical expenses that both meet:
If your claim meets the new, restricted criteria, you may be entitled to claim a tax offset in the current financial year.
