It seems from all the threads on this topic that the only acceptable record-keeping to apportion costs of mobile phone plans is using voice calls. Is this correct? This seems unreasonable given that the largest cost of many plans these days is data usage, and there are workers (eg. Uber drivers) that require data to do their job at all but rarely make work related calls at all.

Hi @beachnik,

Welcome to our Community.

Similar to claiming a deduction for calls and/or text messages, you can claim a deduction for data downloaded for work purposes.
There are different ways to calculate the deduction depending if you receive an itemised bill, or you have a bundled phone and internet plan.

You can find more information about claiming mobile phone, internet expenses on our website, including examples on how to calculate your deductions. If you have further queries, you can phone us on 13 28 61 between 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday to speak to a customer service representative.

Hope this helps, SueO
