Worried you’re missing part of your refund? Remember, the low and middle income tax offset isn’t a refund on its own – it’s used to offset (or reduce) the amount of tax you pay. The offset amount you may be entitled to is automatically applied and could range between $255-$1080, depending on things like your taxable income and how much tax you’ve paid.

We have been living in the UK for over 9 years.  Now waiting to return home (Australia).  We have appointments for vaccine this week for the 1st dose, then wait for 12 weeks for the 2nd dose.  We should be fully vaccinated by mid-May.

During our 9 years in the UK, we moved rental accommodation 3 times.  Each time we had to change our address with many organisations eg banks (3 different ones), share companies (30 different ones), ASIC, ATO (done via annual tax returns), utilities companies, credit cards, membership subscriptions, airlines etc.  A big and time consuming task!

We have moved out of our last rental accommodation, and are currently living in temporary accommodation kindly provided by friends until we can get flights home after the vaccination.  We don't know how long we will be in temporary accommodation - it could be 4 months or longer.

Question is:  Can we change our address from the most recent rental accommodation to our home address in Sydney (and not the temporary accommodation) with banks, share companies and ASIC?  We are still classified as non-residents for Australian tax purposes, until we get back home sometime this year when we will change our tax status to residents.  As non-residents, the banks deducted / withheld 10% tax at source for interest.  As non-residents, the share companies with fully franked dividends do not withhold tax at source, and we do not claim imputation credits on our Australian tax returns.

Thanks for your thoughts / comments.

Hi @Serendipity,

Thanks for getting in touch with us!

We would only be able to advise you on what is required with us and not the other entities mentioned, though they may have similar requirements.

If you have an agreement with Australia post to hold or forward mail that arrives at the property in Sydney, then we would advise to updated your postal address to this address and updated the residential address to your friends address where you are currently residing.

It is important to maintain all your contact details with us as current and up-to-date as possible. Though we mainly communicate with our clients through online channels we may need to send something through the post and because of this contact details need to be up-to-date to protect the privacy and integrity of your tax record and avoid any fraudulent activity.
