Hi,

In the current Tax Year, in my previous job, I received a total of $1,302.42 Meal Allowance when travelled to remote communities (I used to travel regularly to various remote communities in NT, Approximately 700km away from my actual workplace). Meal Allowance ($1,302.42) was included in the payslip and it has been taxed.

In my current role, usually, 11+ hours overnight shift I receive a $13.29 meal allowance per shift.

Question:

1. Is my meal allowance of $1,302.42 tax deductable?

2. Is my $13.29 per shift meal allowance tax deductible?

Yes, provided you actually purchased meals, which driving that distance I imagine you did...

Hi @kanny2g,

An allowance isn't tax-deductible per se, but rather the meals themselves - the key is to only claim the amount you have actually spent, as @BarryM said. The link provided by @BarryM should cover everything.
