We bought some ETFs in June, with the first distribution being early July. I understand this will need to be included in the 20/21 tax year as they are trusts, but what about the franking credits ? Which tax year will they be refunded in ?

Hi @bluebottle,

The franking credit will need to be reported in the financial year it was posted by the company, which may not necessarily be in the same financial year the credit was received.

You should receive a statement at the end of the financial year that you are required to report the franking credit in, from the ETF.

If you are unsure when the franking credit was posted or have not received the end of year statement, you can contact your ETF to confirm.

You can find information of franking credit refunds under Applying for a refund of franking credits.
