HECS withheld

I work a casual job so some weeks I'll be earning $2,000 and some weeks I earn $0.

The weeks I earn more my employer takes out HECS but overall I'm not earning enough to meet the HECS threshold.

Last financial year over $1,600 was withheld for HECS, but since I didn't meet the threshold I got it all back with my tax return.

Is there a way I can stop my employer witholding HECS so I don't get such a large tax return next year?

Can I fill out the Witholding Declaration and select No at Q6 even if I still have my HECS debt?

Can you talk to your employer or pay roll area to explain to them you are under the threshold? You can't really lie on your withholding dec but they shouldn't withhold extra if you are under
