Hi,

I am an international student. I had applied for my TFN and submitted the same to my employer; but due to some discrepancies the data could not be updated in the 28 day limit and almost 50% tax was deducted from my salary the corresponding weeks until the error was rectified.

I want to know if there is a way to refund that amount and if there is, could you please guide me with the process?

Thanks in advance Smiley Happy

Hi @rtauro

You need to lodge a tax return and your tax liability will be worked out. We will apply the amounts your employer withheld for tax and you'll be refunded the excess. On the other hand, if there wasn't enough withheld you will incur a debt.

See our information about how and when to lodge a tax return.

Thanks, Ari
