After we get the MyGovID set up for the staff and link them in RAM to the practice, we have to then set up Machine Credentials.  Does the password for the Machine Credential have to be the same as the My GOV ID?

Its not clear in the instructions how the interface with the credential and the MYGOVID is going to work.  Also, when using the machine credential to request prefills and lodge returns, do we have to use the App to get some sort of authorisation?  Again, I can't find anything about how this will be used.

Hi @JulietP,

When creating your machine credential you’ll use the same email complete details on your keystore. This is where the machine credential will be created and stored on your device.

You’ll need a keystore password, however this is not an existing password but rather one you choose. Your password should have a minimum of ten characters and include at least one upper case letter, lower case letter, number and special character.

You’ll also need to provide this password within your software either when setting up or authenticating.

This page on machine credentials will give you a step by step guide.

I went through the link given and installation is OK but its still not clear re the password.  If you use the same email for the machine credentials as the MYGOVID shouldn't you use the same password?  Will it work if another password is used?

Also, when using the machine credential in our software, will I have to log into the MYGOVID via the app and get an authorisation code to use the machine credential to get a prefilled report or lodge a return?

Hi @JulietP

In reviewing the links above you can create your own password for machine credentials it does not need to be aligned to your MyGovID password. Remembering MyGovID essentially is all about the individuals own identity and can be used elsewhere and will be in the future even more so.

Machine credentials represent the business only, and don’t contain any individual user . The owner of the credential should create a unique password. When lodging using the machine credential, there is no requirement to interact with the myGovID.

Thanks for the query.
