If you're looking for advice or support with your tax return, you may be able to access free assistance through our Tax Help program or the National Tax Clinic.
Tax Help program
If you have a straightforward tax return, our Tax Help program is available from July to October. It’s a free service and your information stays private.
Our trained volunteers can help you with:
lodging or amending your tax return online
creating a myGov account and linking it to the ATO
claiming a refund of franking credits
understanding and managing basic tax and super obligations.
Am I eligible for Tax Help?
If you earned $70,000 or less last year, you might qualify for Tax Help – as long as your tax affairs are simple. That means you didn’t:
There are Tax Help centres across Australia, including in many regional and remote communities. You can also get help online or over the phone if that’s easier for you.
National Tax Clinic
Another option for support is the National Tax Clinic program. This may be a better fit if you’re a small business or if your tax situation is a bit too complex for Tax Help.
Tax clinics are an independent service funded by the government, providing free and confidential support. You’ll receive help from tax students, guided by qualified professionals.
You may qualify for help from a tax clinic if you:
live in a remote location with no access to professional tax support
are a low-income earner or experiencing financial hardship
can’t access professional tax support due to cultural or language barriers
