My family trust wants to make a donation to a charity that is registered as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). The trust does not want to make the charity a beneficiary of the trust but rather wants to claim the tax deduction as a Gift under item Q Other Deductions. Can the trust claim this donation under item Q , and secondly, that no Family Trust Distribution Tax will result from this donation?

Hi @Robbre,

    • You would declare donations to DGRs at item Q of the trust tax return.
    • Donations to DGRs in Australia will not attract Family Trust Distribution Tax.

    Relevant pages on our website:

    Hope that clears things up.
