An Australian citizen is over retirement age and planning to reside in the UK. The citizen receives an Australian superannuation pension which is paid into an Australian bank account. Currently no tax is levied on the pension paid in Australia.

If the citizen moves to the UK will there be any change in the tax treatment of the pension in Australia?

Hi @Patwill1

No - If you're an Australian citizen leaving Australia, the same rules will apply.

But the Australian citizen will need to check the tax rules of UK. They may consider the income from an Australian super fund as an overseas pension and tax may be applied.

Have a look at our website for more information about Australians living overseas.
