I purchased equipment from overseas worth about AUD1,000.00+ which I need for my teaching work (2nd job, casual work). I have bought it online and the invoice is in another currency. Can I claim tax deduction for it? If yes, do I keep the email invoice as proof and use the amount deducted on my card statement as the AUD equivalent amount?

Hi @LicaucoT

There's a helpful response to a similar question that we've previously answered - you can see the post here.

As long as you're using the equipment to help earn employment income, then yes - you can claim the equipment as a deduction. You'll also need to convert the amount to Australian dollars.

In case we ask for evidence, best to keep records of invoices and bank statements.

Have a look on our website for more information about Tools, equipment and other assets.

Hope this helps,

Chantelle
