Hi ,

I've lodge my tax return and received $1248 tax return into my account already.

However, I realize some amount of deduction i filled in was wrong so I amended it, and the status says it is in progress, and the Outcome is "balancing account".

However I logged in to ato today to check the status and it shows that "for action income tax 001" and there's $2117.10 CR , that I owe

So I went to check the amend tax return and use the estimate tax return calculator this is what it shows on it.

Estimated refund of $1,248.00

Estimated tax amount:$1,248.00 CRBalance of previous assessment:$869.10 DRDifference between this tax estimate and previous assessment:$2,117.10 CR

So I wonder what is happening why am I suddenly owe $2117.10 ?

What does it mean.

Thanks

Hiya @peiyuhuang,

It's very hard to give you an explanation, without looking at your account. I will do my best.

From the information you've given, after removing the deductions from your return the balance should have been $869.10.

Because you already received $1248.00 which would not have been credited to you, if the deductions were correct.

So now you need to pay back the $1248.00 you received as a refund and the $869.10 which is the outcome of your return, leaving you with a total debt of $2117.10

Hopefully this helps clear up some of the confusion for you. For any further explanation, you would need to phone in and talk to someone who can access your account.
