I have one casual job (job A) but have recently acquired a second casual job (job B). Currently, I am claiming the tax free threshold at Job A and the no tax free threshold at Job B. This was because Job A was paying me more at that time than Job B. Now, my hours at job B have increased and as a result job B is providing me more income than job A. I have read that the tax free threshold should usually be claimed at the employer which pays you more. My question is how am I able to switch tax free thresholds from one employer to another? or does it automatically change to the employer that pays the most?

Hi @gracealice,

You can change which employer you're claiming the tax-free threshold from by completing a new withholding declaration. You'll need to give an updated version to both employers.

Check out our article How much tax should I pay on a second job? Claiming the tax-free threshold for more info. 😊

so i have to refill out the form for my employer who pays me a least to say no to the tax free threshold it doesn't do it automatically - changing the tax free threshold to the higher paying employer?

@YianaATO

I think this may of been the case for me across many years. Have I been disadvantaged in anyway from not having, in this example job B updated to claim the free tax threshold?
