Yes it is. There is no special exemption for payments received for participation in medical trials.
If you are only receiving reimbursement of your incurred expenses to participate such as travel, parking, meals then those payments do not need to be declared as income.

If the payment is classed as income, does the `employer ` need to pay superannuation guarantee
