I was a student and left Australia on 6th of March 2021. I didn't register at mygov until now to do my tax returns. Unfortunately I didn't have an Aus phone number anymore but I tried giving one of my friend's number who still lives in Australia to complete the process.

But when I tried to link it to ATO using my TFN number and Bank details it showed some error saying there is a mismatch in information. I wonder if it is the phone number.

I have no way of contacting the respective authorities other than through a phone call which going to cost me a lot of money for overseas call since I am in India now.

Is there any better way to link mygov to ATO for an overseas guy? Or is there a mail id or live chat way to contact respective authorities.

Thankyou

Hi @Asif1,

Is there a specific error code with the message you're receiving when you try to link?

We'll double check on our side what the error could be, but it sounds like our information for you isn't matching what you're entering. You may need to update your details with us to complete that link. The issue here is that to update your bank details you'll need to get in contact with us over the phone. The other option is to obtain a myGov linking code from us, however this also requires phone contact. I understand that it's expensive and isn't always an option to contact us that way, I've seen people in the past call via Skype - this could be an option you could look into too.

Alternatively, is there anything specific you're trying to access online services for? We may be able to help out.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thankyou for the reply.

Error code showed was A932.24 but apart from the my friends number which I gave to register mygov instead of mine (since my Aus number was disconnected). Every other information is correct and same according to the ATO letter and my Commonwealth bank account details which I have with me.

Considering my situation is it possible to solve my issue with emailing. I could file my tax as soon as I could resolve this issue.

With Regards

Asif

Hi @Asif1

This error code means you should clear your browser's cache and cookies, and try again. That should fix it for you.

Provided your personal details are correct and match up, clearing the cache will let us verify the details to link you up, and then you'll be able to lodge through myTax.

It won't be an issue with your phone number on file, but you should set up the myGov Code Generator app instead so that you do not need to rely on others to access your own account.

For your safety, we can't communicate personal information through emails. Emails are not a secure channel, so doing so would risk the security of your information.
