I used to be able to access my business portal and cant anymore as ATO has seen fit to deny access to anyone who does not have the necessary mobile phone access with android version 7 or higher.

When am I going to again be able to access the business portal?

I have been told straight by an ATO person to get a a new phone!

My phone is not that old and still works perfectly so why should I upgrade?

The other problem is ATO going to be forever raising the bar by requiring a new phone every year?

Alright for the young but senior no!

Hi @suz2,

I understand the frustration and just wanted to provide an explanation. Unfortunately, a specific smart device is required due to myGovID using security and identification features. Currently the versions of devices compatible are IOS 10+ and Android 7.0+. I'm not aware of any plans to include older versions of these operating systems in the future.

If you're unable to access any device compatible with the app you have the option of completing paper lodgements. Another method you can use is having a tax agent lodge on your behalf.

You're not required to purchase a new phone every year, nor are you expected to purchase the most expensive device on the market. There are cheaper alternatives out there as the device just needs the compatible operating system. If you do choose to purchase a new device for this purpose you may be able to claim a deduction as a business expense.

Sorry for the inconvenience, let us know if you have any further questions.

Sorry whether the phone is a deduction or not I wont buy another until it is required ie no longer works.

The point I was trying to make re new phone every year was if I upgrade to android 7 will the requirement then be android 8 with no backwards compatibility ? I have android 6 currently so why was it set to android 7?

I need to access the portal so I can see what is happening with my tax returns as the ATO sees fit only to contact me if there are any questions regarding it so I am left in the dark as to even if it has been received.

I dont even know the due date for 2021 company tax return.

I was told it was no longer end of FEB for the 2020 tax return only after the return was deemed late.

So, if the ATO are to shut me out of the portal, I need an email response instead.

Maybe this info is not on the portal anyway? it is quite some time since I have been able to access it

I am not the only one having these problems there are many people out there denied access because their phone is not compatible.
