Job Keeper

Hi,

I have a new client a company. Business registered in July 2019, trading started in Jan2020.

They have lodged Mar 2020 BAS and June 2020 BAS

According to the client, they have received jobkeeper payments and applied Alternative test.

No Employees, received job keeper under Eligible Business participant. Their GST turnover is minimal, but the drop was over 30%

I am new tax agent and this is my first business client with jobkeeper.

Please advise on things that I should pay attention when making decision to accept this client.

Thanks

Hiya @Mala14,

The business is lodging declarations for the JobKeeper payments themselves, and after you have prepared the return, they sign it declaring all the details are true and correct meaning liability for the lodgements fall on the clients. If you are worried about legal repercussions, I recommend seeking legal advice.

If you believe your client is intentionally claiming JobKeeper while not being eligible you can report them anonymously via a tip off form on our website.

Just wanted to add the following,

I believe that hes not eligible to apply for job keeper as the business does not satisfy the Eligible business entity requirements.

If I accept this job, I will be doing only the tax return for the 2019/2020 FY.

I am not handling any jobkeeper matters for them, my concern is will I be responsible for any issues related to their jobkeeper?

What are my obligations here?

Thanks
