Hi,

Someone filed an IT return for my wife and got returns. Our Accountant came to know about it when he tried to login for her IT return process. He said he can see a company called "One Click Life" or something similar sounding name that has filed her returns and got the money on her behalf. We have not heard about this company and we never approached the for any tax related work or anything. I searched for this company and its in Subiaco, Perth WA. We live in Victoria. ATO is closed for weekend so we can't call and talk with them. I couldn't find any place to report this kind of scam on ATO website so am posting it here.

Hi @Kamalkumar

Remember to keep your identity safe online.

Don't give personal information away on our forum (or any other for that matter).

In order to make sure we can correct this, your wife will need to contact our identity theft line. You can find their contact number on our contact us page.

When she calls, she will need to answer our normal identity checks as well as verify a document (such as a licence or passport).

We'll be able to put a secret question on her account to help make sure only she can access her accounts.

We'll put a mark on her records to stop anyone (including herself) from linking a myGov account to her ATO records.

Not to worry, though. She'd just need to call and say she needs access for us to temporarily remove this.

It's part of how we'll keep her accounts safe.

Because this was done through a tax agent, you can also make a complaint to the Tax Practitioners Board to investigate and, hopefully, put a stop to them.

In the meantime, we have some information on our page for when you've been the victim of identity theft and some steps to take after.

This may help work out when or where her information was compromised.
