Our clients pay employees a car allowance under the Real Estate Award. The ATO says it will allow a deduction with no written evidence for car expenses covered by an award transport payment, if the taxpayer does not claim more than the award payable at 29 October, 1986. How can I ascertain whether the Real Estate Award existed in 1986, and if so, what was the amount of the car allowance?
