I've set up a myGov and Centrelink account, but I cannot link Centrelink to myGov because my digital identity needs to be strengthened via myGovID. It is currently "standard" however the only option available to prove my identity is to provide details from an Australian Passport. I am a New Zealand citizen with a NZ passport and SCV.

Hi @asd

Currently, to get a Strong myGovID you need to have an Australian passport and be able to verify your face against it. If you don't have an Australian passport, you won't be able to reach a Strong identity strength.

However, it looks like there are other options for linking your myGov to Centrelink. You can:

You may have other options, or perhaps Centrelink has a work-around for people in this situation. You'd need to contact Services Australia directly to find out, though.

The accepted answer is useless

Not always.

The new policy for a company, need all directors to apply "Director ID"

But my client is Australia PR , who doesn't hold an Australian Passport.

Because she can't apply MyGovID, then she can't get the director id.

What can she do?

Can a foreigner be a director of a company in Australia?

Ref: https://www.patricia.com.au/help-centre/company-registration/can-a-foreigner-be-a-director-of-a-company-in-australia#:~:text=Yes%2C%20a%20foreign%20person%20can,that%20a%20company%20must%20have.

Yes, a foreign person can be a director of a company in Australia, however they cannot be a sole director of an Australian company. Section 201A of the Corporations Act 2001 sets out the minimum number of directors, including the minimum number of Australian directors that a company must have. It states that a private pty ltd company must have at least one director, who must ordinarily reside in Australia. A public company must have at least three directors and at least two directors who ordinarily reside in Australia.

Hello @Ozbillwang,

To get a director id you only need a MYGOVID strength of standard or higher. A standard strength can be obtained without the need of a passport, I would suggest guiding your client to the Verify your identity page and see if they have access to any of the other documents that can meet the standard strength.

Alternatively if the required myGOVID strength can't be achieved you can appply for Director ID without one. The ABRS page has more detaills.

@TeddyATO

Your system must have a bug I just tried to apply for a Director ID.

I have a Standard identity strength myGovID and then when I hit the ABRS website I get the message below.

Your myGovID identity is not strong enough. (Error Number:A938.02)

Open the myGovID app to finish proving your identity.

Which linked me to this knowledge base article.

It even says on the MyGovID website that it only requires a Standard identity strength.

What department shall I call?

I am an Australian Citizen and I still cannot meet the STRONG requirement - SIMPLY because I DO NOT HAVE A PASSPORT.

Same situation here, although I have a passport that expired in 2000.

Obviously that is not good enough and therefore according to MyGov I do not exist 😉

Im 67 and retired now and need to apply for pension but that this is impossible without “strong I.D”.

Now here is the catch - to apply for passport you need to provide photo I.D but to obtain photo I.D you need to provide photo I.D… 😂

Btw; My current status is standard. I was able to achieve that by providing my Citizenship number from 1986 and current Medicare card. Obviously MyGov keeps all my details from the date I arrived in Australia including my expired passport and driver license details but that is still not enough to verify my identity…!

Hi @leslies

Who are you applying to for the pension is it Services Australia? You should get in touch with them and ask for an alternate way to apply. Hopefully they can get this sorted for you asap.
