Hi,

My son applied for a TFN number on 12 January online. We have not received it yet even it exceeding the 28 days. Some solutions provided include calling but I've been calling, however no representatives appeared after half an hour waiting. I have tried all possible paths, through this line. It is really disappointing because this should really be a straight forward thing to solve. And worst, my son cannot start his job because he does not know his TFN.

 

Is there any place we can go physically to deal about this in Perth? Is there any way one could contact me regarding this issue?

When your son applied for his TFN, which application method did he use?


If he applied through the process for Australian residents/citizens without an Australian passport, he'll need to do the online form, then attend an Australia Post interview with his IDs. If he hasn't done that, then his application won't have been sent to us yet. Australia Post sends the application on to us once they verify the identity documents.


Even if your son doesn't have a TFN yet, he can still start working. When he starts working, the employer will give him a TFN declaration to complete. He can select the option for I have made a separate application/enquiry to the ATO for a new or existing TFN. When he selects this, the employer will withhold tax at the normal rate for 28 days while he's waiting to get his TFN. After this time, if he still hasn't received it, the employer will withhold at the top rate until he does have it.

Hello, Lucas, my son already applied TFN for a month already, but still not receive yet. By the way,Does your son receive his TFN? And how long did your son got his TFN? Thanks @Lucas_rb

How did your son apply for his TFN?


The reason I ask is to make sure he completed the full application. If he applied as an Australian citizen without a passport, he would've needed to complete the online form and attend an Australia Post shopfront with his identity documents. If he hasn't done both parts, the application won't be complete yet.


Take a look at the different ways to apply for a TFN to confirm if he's completed the full process. If he did complete the full process, and haven't received it after 28 days, you can see what next steps he will need to take to follow up on our website.

my son completed the full application, he is an Australian citizen , he have completed the online form and already attend an Australia Post shopfront interview.

So, how long maximum will be receive his TFN? And how to check processing on website?
